The conflict known as the Battle of Simocadia occurred in 22 BBY. During this time, the CIS attempted to seize the Republic's agrocite mines located on Simocadia. Leading the defense, Jedi Master Mace Windu commanded a strike force with the mission to safeguard the inhabitants of the planet. A space engagement unfolded between the Republic and CIS fleets; the Confederacy suffered the loss of at least one Munificent-class star frigate in addition to a Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship. Simultaneously, on the planet's surface, the Separatist Droid Army had successfully captured the Royal Palace, only to be driven back by the combined might of the Jedi and his clone troopers. Later, the Jedi discovered that Prince Yojan had aligned himself with the CIS, utilizing their assets to obliterate Simocadia's agrocite mines using an ancient Ardana Shadex stone giant, his objective being to make both warring factions lose interest in his world. Windu engaged Yojan, but the giant was nonetheless activated, spiraling out of control and endangering not only the mine, but also the Royal City. To avert disaster, the Jedi and the prince cooperated to halt the giant, culminating in Yojan's self-sacrifice to deactivate it. Following these events, the Republic established a military presence on the planet to protect both the mines and the population.
