Syke

A male Human clone trooper serving within the Grand Army of the Republic was known as Syke. Tragically, he met his death through betrayal at the hands of his clone brother, Ghost.

Biography

Early life

Syke was a male Human clone trooper. He was created on Kamino specifically for the Galactic Republic. With the outbreak of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, Syke became one of the millions of clones forming the backbone of the Republic's military force, the Grand Army of the Republic. He distinguished himself through his personal touches: yellow lightning bolts painted on his armor's shoulders and a mohawk hairstyle. At some point in his life, he acquired a scar that ran across the left side of his mouth.

Early in the war, he was involved in combat on board a starship. The vessel's shields had failed, and it was plummeting towards a sun. Additionally, droidekas had boarded the ship. As his fellow clones retreated to the escape pods, Syke worked to restore the ship's functionality, sweat beading on his forehead beneath his helmet. Two droidekas rolled past him, focused on destroying the escape pods. Syke engaged them, drawing their attention before launching a thermal detonator at the pair. The detonator caught them just before their shields could activate. The resulting explosion destroyed the droids, showering Syke with burning debris, one piece of which melted his armor on the left side of his chest. He chose to leave the damage unrepaired, viewing the battle scars on a clone's armor as a testament to their individual experiences.

Mission to Oznek

Later in 22 BBY, Syke was dispatched to the planet Oznek on a mission. He served directly under the command of Sergeant Banks and Commander Griebs Kishpaugh. By this time, he had developed a close friendship with another clone named Cutter. As they flew over the planet's forested terrain in a Low Altitude Assault Transport, Syke, Cutter, and Ghost teased their new sergeant about his meticulous cleaning of his armor and weapons. Banks reprimanded Syke for his disrespect, threatening him with the task of writing a detailed report on regulation protocols. Shortly thereafter, their transport came under intense enemy fire. Despite the area supposedly being free of Confederate forces, they encountered a large droid army that shot them down.

Syke, betrayed and killed by his brother, Ghost

The LAAT's crash resulted in the deaths of the pilot and several other clones. Syke managed to escape the wreckage through a hatch, only to face a horde of B1 and B2 battle droids. Armed with his blaster rifle, Syke and the other clones fought back against the attacking droids, protecting the wounded and burying the dead. Eventually, the relentless waves of droids stopped, and the seven remaining clones concealed their trail by detonating a thermal detonator. After setting up camp in the woods, Syke tried unsuccessfully to repair and use a communications array. Following a request from Crazy Legs, and with Syke's encouragement, Banks demonstrated the origin of his nickname, showcasing his unique ability to calculate angles and ricochet his blaster bolts off objects with precision, hitting his targets without losing power. After Syke got the array working, they were contacted via holoprojector by Commander Kishpaugh. Kishpaugh informed them of a droid command center located twenty kilometers away, ordering them to destroy it despite their losses. He then dismissed Syke and the other clone troopers from the shelter, speaking with Banks privately.

Before sunrise, Syke and the others departed, leaving Crazy Legs behind due to a broken leg sustained in the crash. They traversed the forest, encountering dangerous terrain and creatures, and lost another clone, who was devoured by an animal. During their journey, Syke shared a war story from the early days of the conflict, then asked Ghost to share one of his own, but the older clone declined. Cutter, who was leading the way, drew the others' attention to an ancient city in ruins. The clones noted that their scanners had not detected any signs of the large settlement, and they suddenly found themselves surrounded by Toma, the native sentient species of Oznek. With their hands bound, the clones braced themselves for death after the Toma's leader ordered their execution, but they were interrupted by another droid attack. Banks asked the Toma to cut their bonds so they could fight together, and the Toma complied. Syke and the others retrieved their weapons and fought off the droids, but Cutter realized that Banks had to complete their mission. He told the sergeant to take Syke and Ghost, while he and the other surviving clone trooper held off the droids. Banks initially refused to leave Cutter, but when Cutter pointed out that the Toma couldn't be allowed to live either, Syke and the others fled.

They reached the facility that Kishpaugh had designated as their target. Once there, Ghost sniped the two guards outside, allowing them to infiltrate the facility. They navigated the corridors, encountering minimal resistance, which Banks later noted should have aroused suspicion. Inside the main area of the facility, Banks instructed Syke and Ghost to search for signs of Separatist technology. Syke quickly sensed that something was wrong and that the facility did not match the description they had been given. He was then shot in the back by Ghost, resulting in his death.

The mission was revealed to be a deception from the outset, orchestrated by Kishpaugh and Ghost, who were both planning to defect to the Confederacy for their own reasons. Their escape from the Republic required creating a pretext for war on Oznek—specifically, destroying a "droid command center" that was actually a power plant. Banks successfully thwarted the plan, killing Ghost and capturing Kishpaugh.
