Biography

Jedi and Mand'alor

The Darksaber, a unique black-bladed lightsaber.

A human male with Force abilities, Tarre Vizsla entered the ranks of the Jedi Order circa 1050 BBY, marking him as the first Mandalorian to achieve this honor. Eventually, Tarre achieved prominence as a Jedi Knight. During his tenure as a Jedi, Vizsla forged the Darksaber. Fashioned with a black blade and a hilt made of high-grade beskar, this unique lightsaber became the symbol of leadership for House Vizsla, the Mandalorian house established by Tarre on the planet of Mandalore. Leading his people with this blade, Tarre Vizsla ultimately ascended to the position of Mand'alor of his planet. The house he started would eventually be the origin of a smaller group known as Clan Vizsla.

Legacy

Tarre Vizsla wielding the Darksaber

Following Vizsla's death, the Darksaber was held within the Jedi Temple until House Vizsla retrieved it during the fall of the Old Republic and was stolen, using it to unite Mandalore. After his passing, a sizable statue was erected on Mandalore as a memorial to his legacy. In her youth, the Mandalorian Sabine Wren was brought to the statue by her father, Alrich Wren, to foster an appreciation for its historical significance. During the Mandalorian Civil War of the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire dishonored Vizsla's memory and desecrated the statue by constructing an outpost upon it, obscuring portions of the statue, including its face. Determined to prevent the Empire from disrespecting its significance, Sabine and her younger brother, Tristan Wren, dismantled the outpost, restoring the statue to its original state. Paz Vizsla, a descendant of Tarre Vizsla, fought Din Djarin, another Mandalorian, for possession of the Darksaber, but was defeated.

Behind the scenes

Tarre Vizsla's initial appearance was in a flashback sequence within the "Trials of the Darksaber" episode, the fifteenth installment of the third season of Star Wars Rebels, which was broadcast in 2017.
