An individual of human descent and female identity, Salju was the proud owner of Black Spire Station. This establishment, situated within Black Spire Outpost on the world of Batuu, functioned as both a filling station and a repair facility. The vehicles it serviced were diverse, encompassing everything from landspeeders and swoop bikes to smaller vessels. Known for her cheerful disposition, friendliness, and optimism, Salju readily provided assistance to anyone in need, helping them locate necessary parts or fulfill specific requests.
During her mission to establish a base on Batuu, the Resistance agent Vi Moradi formed a friendship with Salju. She played a crucial role in helping the spy adjust to the local customs and culture.
Salju, a Batuuan human female, came into the world in 9 ABY. She resided with her father, Harta, in Black Spire Outpost, the largest settlement on the Outer Rim planet of Batuu. On one occasion, Harta returned from his frequent work travels with a gift for his daughter, as was his custom. This time, he presented a young Salju with a pet therii, whom she affectionately named Elee. Salju sought advice from Bina, the owner of the local Creature Stall, regarding the proper way to feed Elee and groom her tusks. The two companions were inseparable, even sharing a sleeping space, although Salju ensured Elee had her own designated bed. During playtime, such as pretending to be a pilot, Elee often created considerable messes, which Salju diligently cleaned up. Salju confided in Elee, sharing her passion for garage work and her aspiration to own a speeder one day. As a token of friendship, Lunacca, the Wookiee proprietor of The Wooden Wookiee, gifted Salju and Elee a wooden carving depicting Elee.
As Elee matured, Salju began taking her to the remote Surabat River Valley for recreational activities. There, they encountered other therii who welcomed them warmly. Eventually, Elee grew so large that she accidentally toppled an oil drum, prompting Salju to relocate her friend to live with her fellow therii in the River Valley. Even in her adult years, Salju maintained the tradition of visiting Elee on the anniversary of their first encounter.
In the year 34 ABY, Vi Moradi, a Resistance spy, and the former First Order Captain Cardinal, now known as Archex, embarked on a mission to establish a Resistance foothold on Batuu. The pair, accompanied by their droid Pook, experienced a crash landing in a forest near Black Spire Outpost, resulting in both humans losing consciousness. Upon regaining awareness, they discovered that most of their possessions, along with a significant portion of Pook's body, had been pilfered. Salju then arrived, offering her assistance in recovering their stolen items and navigating life on Batuu.
Salju escorted Vi through Black Spire Outpost, while Archex and Pook remained at the site of their crashed starship. Salju introduced Moradi to numerous local residents and customs, fostering a friendship between the two women. Among those Salju introduced Moradi to were Mubo, the droid vendor and repair specialist, Arta Kleidun, the clothing merchant, and Savi, the scrapper who was a friend of Lor San Tekka and a supporter of the Jedi Order.
After Salju dedicated her entire day to assisting Vi and Archex in settling into Batuu, Moradi quickly recognized Salju's potential as a valuable asset to the Resistance. Salju expressed her aspirations to explore the stars and witness the diverse animal life inhabiting the galaxy's planets. Moradi extended an invitation for Salju to join the Resistance, emphasizing the organization's need for someone with her interpersonal and technological skills, as well as her altruistic nature. However, Salju declined, reaffirming that Batuu was her home.
Salju exhibited a strong inclination to assist travelers, as demonstrated by her support for Vi Moradi and Archex following their crash landing on Batuu. She was regarded as trustworthy by her fellow residents of Black Spire Outpost, including Mubo and Arta Kleidun. While Salju harbored a desire to travel among the stars, she remained steadfast in her belief that Batuu and Black Spire Outpost were her true home.
The initial reveal of Salju's name occurred during the December 16, 2017 "Galactic Nights" event. It was present on the map side of several trading cards with a Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme, designed to promote the ride, specifically the map card for Black Spire Station. These map cards featured locations on the planet Batuu, accompanied by a line from the Old Batuuan ballad along the card's border, written in Aurebesh. In the case of Black Spire Station, the phrase was "THOSE BROKEN AND TOSSED."
