Alexem held the position of elder within a village populated by Squibs on the planet known as Holador. His people traced their lineage back to a group of Squibs who experienced a crash landing on the planet around 221 BBY, subsequently embracing a more rudimentary way of life. Esteemed within his tribe, Alexem served as the guardian of their Sacred Icon—a defunct communications relay—and the arbiter of their internal conflicts.
During 21 BBY, a Twi'lek female named Kelyan arrived at the village, recounting tales of a menacing group of off-worlders pursuing her. While the village's fighters were eager to protect their community, Alexem exercised restraint, dispatching warriors to invite the strangers to the village and explain their presence. Upon their arrival, Alexem carefully assessed the accounts from both sides. He concluded that the Twi'lek's narrative was untruthful and decreed that the outsiders should be treated as honored guests before being permitted to depart unharmed.
Alexem was a male Squib who was born in a simple village located on the planet of Holador. His people originated from Squib space travelers who survived when their starship crashed on the planet around 221 BBY. Despite sending out distress signals, no rescue arrived for the survivors, and their technology gradually broke down. Over the course of seven generations, they adapted to the primitive environment, learning to survive through hunting and gathering. The belief that they would eventually be rescued by people from the cosmos became an integral part of their mythology. Technological items were repurposed for more basic functions, and the comms relay evolved into a Sacred Icon. Alexem was among the few remaining Squibs in his tribe who still understood Basic, and he rose to become the elder of the village, which consisted of 50 Squibs, during the later years of the Galactic Republic.
In 21 BBY, an outsider appeared: a Twi'lek named Kelyan. Initially, the Squibs were wary of her, but she spoke Squibbian and used it to entertain the tribe with stories of her companions and their struggle against a group she called the Assassin Lords and their followers. The villagers gradually grew to trust the stranger, even to like her, but Alexem remained skeptical of her motives. Something about her made him uneasy, so he concealed his ability to speak Basic from her. He felt it was best to hear all perspectives before reaching a conclusion.
Some days later, a scout returned from the tunnels near the village with information about another group of off-worlders. Kelyan cautioned that these were the villains she had been describing, and the agitated Squib fighters demanded the strangers' lives. Nevertheless, Alexem instructed a group of warriors to locate these outsiders, invite them to the village, and escort them back to the Squibs' settlement. Alexem did not plan to use violence against the outsiders—unless they proved the woman's story to be true.
That evening, the warriors returned with the alleged villains, and the Twi'lek woman criticized them for their supposed wrongdoings. The village warriors seemed more anxious than before, but Alexem told them to wait. Revealing his knowledge of Basic, he asked the outsiders to explain who they were and why they were on Holador. A heated exchange followed, with the Twi'lek and the strangers arguing about their innocence and the other side's deception. In particular, the group of strangers claimed that they had crash-landed on Holador as part of an elaborate trap set by the Twi'lek and her companions, a group of mercenaries who were trying to kill them.
Alexem carefully considered both sides' arguments and made his decision: The outsiders seemed to pose no threat to his people, so they would be allowed to leave peacefully. He decided that his village would even assist them in any way possible. As for Kelyan, Alexem declared that despite her dishonesty, she was a guest of the village and had not actually violated any of the tribal laws.
Alexem was quite old for a Squib. During official village matters, he sat in a worn-out flight chair near the central fire pit, with the Sacred Icon behind him. The elder wrapped himself in thick blankets, revealing only his eyes and ears. He was known for his wisdom and patience, calming his warriors' anger and insisting on hearing all sides of a dispute before making a decision. Alexem could speak Basic, though not perfectly: his accent was strong, and his vocabulary and grammar were somewhat limited.
Alexem is a character in Strike III, an adventure for the Living Force campaign of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game published by Wizards of the Coast in 2005. The Squib and his village are featured in an encounter where the player characters are expected to rely on roleplaying and non-combat skills to progress in their quest. They must also deal with Kelyan, who is trying to convince Alexem and his tribe that the player characters are dangerous and should not be allowed to leave the village alive.
In an encounter with a Squib scout from Alexem's village, the player characters can choose to react cautiously and peacefully, or they can treat the scout aggressively. If they resort to force and intimidation, Alexem's warriors will attack them instead of escorting them to the village. The scenario considers fighting to be the wrong approach, however, and penalizes such behavior by pushing those characters further toward the dark side of the Force.
Once at the village, the outcome of the encounter depends on the players' ability to make successful die rolls and find ways to gain favor with the elder and the Squibs, such as offering technological items, rations, or medical aid. If they perform poorly, the Squib warriors will attack. Success means that Alexem and his people will conclude that the outsiders are harmless and become friendly with them. This positive outcome is considered the official path.
