A Weld represented the fundamental social unit within Noehon culture. These Welds were each governed by a physically imposing male, referred to as an "alpha", who exercised control over a harem consisting of 10 to 50 females who were in a state of submission. Once males within the Weld reached puberty, they were frequently driven out. New females were incorporated into the Weld through abduction from the alpha-led Welds of others.
The removal of an alpha typically occurred only when their physical strength diminished to the point where a young male could successfully challenge and overthrow them. The females within the Weld established a rigid hierarchical structure, with the most senior or longest-serving females holding the highest positions.
