Vhe'viin

A vhe'viin represented a species of diminutive rodent that was native to the Outer Rim planet known as Mandalore. These swift vhe'viin creatures were typically burrowers, often observed with coats of tan colored fur. However, it was known that vhe'viine could adapt by changing their fur to a white hue when inhabiting regions covered in snow. These small rodents were a regular sight on Mandalore and gained notoriety for collectively invading grain fields, consuming the crop of unfortunate Mandalorian farmers.

Biology and appearance

Vhe'viine were a non-sentient rodent species of small stature, indigenous to the planet of Mandalore, situated within the Outer Rim Territories region of the galaxy. These minuscule beings were covered in tan-hued fur that would transition to white during the winter months, enabling them to more effectively camouflage themselves against the snow on the ground. Exhibiting a curious nature toward their surroundings, vhe'viine were burrowing animals with a particular fondness for grain, which often led to conflicts with Mandalorian farmers who cultivated this staple crop.

History

As time progressed, vhe'viine became infamous for their habit of swarming Mandalorian farmers' fields, where they would steal grain for their own sustenance. A population of vhe'viine resided near the Skirata clan home, Kyrimorut, and a group of them witnessed the reconciliation between Mandalorian soldier Kal Skirata and his daughter, Ruusaan. The members of Clan Skirata also crafted several toys from veshok wood for young Venku Skirata, one of which was a vhe'viin toy.

In the year 41 ABY, Jedi Knight Jaina Solo traveled to Mandalore to enlist the help of Mand'alor Boba Fett in her efforts to defeat her brother, Jacen, who had embraced the dark side and become a Sith Lord. Upon being escorted to Fett at the Oyu'baat cantina in Keldabe, the capital city of Mandalore, Solo observed a vhe'viin darting across the floor of the ancient tapcaf. Subsequently, Fett encountered another vhe'viin while visiting the headquarters of MandalMotors, and remarked that the planet's economic boom had enabled the vhe'viine in Mandalore's farming regions to take advantage of the farmers' prosperity, by plundering grain from their fields.

Behind the scenes

The vhe'viin rodent made its debut in the Star Wars universe within Star Wars: Legacy of the Force: Revelation, the eighth installment in the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force novel series, penned by author Karen Traviss and released on February 26, 2008. Traviss would once again include the vhe'viin in Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel, her fourth contribution to the Republic Commando novel series, later in the same year. A wooden toy depicting the vhe'viin also made a brief appearance in Imperial Commando: 501st, the sequel to Order 66.
