Taras-chi (tradition)

The so-called taras-chi was supposedly a "tradition" of Jedi debate conceived by Kyp Durron; however, it was actually a strategy devised by Durron to demonstrate his support for Luke Skywalker.

This technique, which takes its name from an insect found on Kessel, was improvised by Durron to conceal his genuine sentiments regarding Jacen Solo's progression towards mastery from both Chief of State Cal Omas and Admiral Niathal. When Niathal pressed him to reaffirm his earlier stance, he responded that she was "unfamiliar with the role of the taras-chi in Jedi debates." He then elaborated that a taras-chi was a participant in a debating forum tasked with introducing viewpoints that challenged conventional wisdom, with the aim of evaluating the strength of established ideas. He compared the concept to court jesters or the independent media of global governments.

Following the meeting's adjournment, Mara Jade Skywalker inquired about the meaning of 'taras-chi,' and Durron confessed that he had adopted the name from a species of disagreeable insect. Luke expressed his gratitude for Durron's backing.

It appears that Luke Skywalker endorsed this concept and started implementing the newly established taras-chi custom during Council sessions.
