T. Alvak was both a pilot and astrogator within the Imperial forces. Growing up in a naval household, Alvak developed a strong desire to become a pilot early in life. He enrolled in the Imperial Naval Academy, where he graduated as a navigator and subsequently served with the 98th "Laser Storm" Forward Observer Shuttle Wing for a number of years. Following studies to become a TIE starfighter pilot, Alvak participated in the Solaest Uprising, which led to his promotion to Flight Captain and the awarding of the Distinguished Flight Medal. Later, Alvak was assigned to the Solaest Fleet Long Range Patrol Wing.

Growing up in a Naval family, T. Alvak's father was a career officer who served in various roles, including sub-navigator on starships, harbor controller, and senior portmaster at the Imperial base on the planet Tieos in the Abrion sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Alvak harbored aspirations of flying starfighters from a young age and received training as a general engineer. He then enlisted in the Imperial Naval Academy located on Prefsbelt IV, where he qualified as a navigator. After graduating with honors, ranking in the top third of his graduating class, Alvak was assigned to the 98th "Laser Storm" Forward Observer Shuttle Wing, where he functioned as both an astrogator and emergency pilot. After a couple of years, he was promoted to Flight Leader after successfully completing his solo astrogation trials assessed by the promotion board.
Following a two-year stint with the 98th, Alvak was reassigned to the TIE training school situated on the Imperial-class Star Destroyer named Inflexible. Having qualified in a TIE/LN starfighter, Alvak participated in the Imperial response to the Solaest Uprising, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flight Medal for his actions during the conflict, along with a promotion to Flight Captain. He subsequently continued his service with the Solaest Fleet Long Range Patrol Wing.
Alvak was seen as an exemplary Imperial officer, deeply committed to the Imperial Navy and proud of his position within it. Upon graduating, Alvak pledged to defend the Empire and obey the Galactic Emperor, a vow he took with utmost seriousness. His superiors regarded Alvak as a capable and dependable individual, although they occasionally perceived him as somewhat disrespectful of their authority. His peers considered him to be both intelligent and quick-witted, possessing an uncanny ability to locate a supply of alcohol in any location. His subordinates viewed him as a thoughtful yet distant and demanding commander.
Alvak was proficient as both a starfighter pilot and astrogator, and he also received training as a general engineer. He was a notable TIE fighter pilot, having acquired his skills at the TIE training school aboard the Inflexible and earning the Distinguished Flight Medal for his performance in one during the Solaest Uprising.
Alvak was typically seen wearing a TIE pilot's flight suit and carrying a blaster pistol.
The first mention of T. Alvak appeared in The Star Wars Sourcebook, which was published by West End Games in 1987. His RPG statistics were presented as an example of a typical Imperial TIE fighter pilot, and it was noted that he attended the "TIE training school" aboard the Star Destroyer Inflexible. In 1994, an updated edition of the sourcebook was released, in which Alvak's entry changed "TIE training school" to "Tir training school". This article assumes that the latter information is an error.
