Sensor decoy

A sensor decoy was a piece of equipment, like a compact pod or a shuttle, designed to project electromagnetic and holographic emanations. These signals were crafted to imitate those produced by a bigger starship. Their strength lay in their ability to deceive those chasing from afar; only highly attuned sensor equipment could distinguish between the false signals of the decoy and the genuine signature of the starship itself.
