Sand gizzards, also known as "sando g'dizzards" in the Huttese language, were a food item conceived by the Hutt species. If prepared or presented incorrectly, consuming this dish could result in an unpleasant, abrasive experience.
Despite its potential for discomfort, the Human scholar Ebenn Q3 Baobab suggested to readers of his book, the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, published in 6 ABY, to sample the dish should they find themselves at a Hutt eatery within the spaceport of Mos Eisley located on the planet of Tatooine. He considered it among his preferred Hutt culinary experiences and even included its Huttese translation in the language section of his book. Baobab's book described Hutt cuisine as costly, advising that it be eaten with gloves, although utensils were not needed. He also noted that the cuisine was eaten casually and in no specific order. This particular dish was featured alongside other Hutt delicacies at a lavish feast hosted by the Hutt crime lord Popara Anjiliac Diresto at his penthouse on Nal Hutta in 19 ABY.
The initial mention of sand gizzards occurred in the 2001 book Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, authored by Ben Burtt. They subsequently made an appearance in the 2012 novel Scourge, penned by Jeff Grubb.
