Ollopoms, a rodent species, were diminutive, mild-mannered herbivores indigenous to the planet Naboo's swampy regions; they are non-sentient. Often, they were confused with pom petals, a type of plant that constituted a portion of their diet. Ollie, an ollopom, was the property of Dok-Ondar, an Ithorian residing on Batuu, a world situated in the Outer Rim. The pirate Hondo Ohnaka gifted him the ollopom. Bina, an Amani, featured Ollie in her engaging book, Bina's Guide to the Creatures of Batuu, and Ardis San Tekka, a creature aficionado, penned an entry about ollopoms for her journal.
Within the Gungan swamps of Naboo, one could find ollopoms, a non-sentient species of small, docile herbivorous rodents. Due to their consumption of pom petals and other plants that thrive in the swamps, they were sometimes mistaken for flora. This misidentification stemmed from their broad, flat heads, which resembled the leaves of certain aquatic plants, in addition to their fur and elongated, pink, bloom-resembling hair tendrils. They possessed teeth suitable for gnawing and a purple beak on their underside, which they utilized for consuming floating vegetation. They also had three pairs of clawed limbs that functioned more as paddles, enabling them to float on the water's surface, green fur, and a long tail with a fluke. Their eyes, which were light brown, were used to carefully observe their surroundings for potential predators, and their skin exhibited a pink and yellow-green coloration with purple markings.

During the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance in 34 ABY, the Ithorian collector Dok-Ondar kept an ollopom named Ollie as a pet. Ollie resided in a small tank within his establishment, Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, located in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. Hondo Ohnaka, the pirate, presented Ollie to Dok-Ondar as a gift, having discovered him in unmarked cargo. Dok-Ondar showcased Ollie to his customers in a cylindrical glass container filled with water and pom petal plants.
Bina, an Amani female who managed the local Creature Stall in Black Spire Outpost, incorporated Ollie into her interactive book, Bina's Guide to the Creatures of Batuu. Her employees distributed this book to younglings aged nine years or younger at no cost. Eloc Throno, a historian, also featured a photograph and mention of Ollie in his book about Batuu, titled Traveler's Guide to Batuu. Following the defeat of the clone of Darth Sidious in 35 ABY, Ardis San Tekka, an enthusiast of creatures, included an entry about ollopoms in her journal. This entry detailed her experiences searching for non-sentient creatures across the galaxy with the assistance of the droid B8-T5.

The Star Wars canon first mentioned ollopoms in the D23 article "Creatures, Droids, and Aliens: Meet the Fantastical Figures of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge," which was published on May 29, 2019 ( D23). The article revealed that the ollopom would soon appear as a prop in Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, a retail store located in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. This themed area opened in 2019 at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Originally, ollopoms were created for the Legends continuity, making their debut in the 1999 video game Star Wars Episode I: The Gungan Frontier.
In 2024, the reference book Star Wars Bestiary, Vol. 1: Creatures of the Galaxy, authored by S.T. Bende and illustrated by Iris Compiet, featured an entry on ollopoms. Bende and editor Sammy Holland compiled a list of approximately 400 species for potential inclusion in the book when they began working on it in 2022. The final 130 species, including ollopoms, were drafted into the reference book, and the rodent's entry survived subsequent cuts made after the initial draft. Bende sent Compiet a photograph of the Ollie prop from Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities at Disneyland, inquiring whether the artist had a subaquatic perspective of the creature. Compiet's illustrations for the book, including those of ollopoms, were created using acrylic, gouache, and watercolor paints. The artist, who began production in 2023, preferred traditional techniques to reflect the drawings that San Tekka would have created in-universe for her journal. Multiple sketches were made for each creature in Star Wars Bestiary, and the Lucasfilm Story Group approved the final selections.
