Mubasa hock, referred to as mubasa hok in Huttese, constituted an extravagant culinary offering originating from the Hutt species. This dish was featured at the Sith Academy situated on the planet of Odacer-Faustin in the year 3645 BBY. Furthermore, it was also procurable at Hutt-operated eateries located on Tatooine during the era of the New Republic.
An expensive food item, mubasa hock was palatable to both the Human and Hutt species. The latter, in their native Huttese, termed it mubasa hok and frequently presented it in a bowl alongside a collection of other dishes, consumed in no particular sequence. It could manifest as a fibrous mass and was sometimes accompanied by preserved montra fruit. The employment of eating implements was optional when consuming the hock.
The presence of mubasa hock in the galaxy dates back to at least 3645 BBY, when Jura Ostrogoth, a Sith Acolyte, partook of a serving of hock within the dining facilities of the Sith Academy on Odacer-Faustin. During the New Republic period, the Human scholar Ebenn Q3 Baobab suggested to his Human audience of his publication, Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, that they sample mubasa hock – though with gloves – if they happened to visit any of the Huttese restaurants of the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine. Baobab highlighted the dish as a favored Hutt culinary choice within the section of his book dedicated to the Huttese language, where he also offered the translation from Basic and characterized all Hutt cuisine as "casual."
Mubasa hock initially appeared in the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, penned by Star Wars sound specialist Ben Burtt in 2001. It subsequently featured in the 2010 novel Red Harvest, authored by Joe Schreiber. There is no known direct relationship between mubasa hock and mubasa sauce, which was introduced in the 2009 novel Rebel Force: Renegade.
