M-class fighter

Characteristics

This fighter of the M-class was constructed with a main body, from which two angled wings extended from its center. Each wing terminated in a heavy laser cannon, and incorporated sizable engine housings, that were recovered from destroyed Y-wing starfighters.

At the front of the main body was a spacious, two-person cockpit. Although a single pilot could operate the vessel, a second pilot could join to take control of the navigation computer along with other auxiliary systems.

History

Fighters of the M-class were based at Echo Base which was located on Hoth during 3 ABY. One was transported to the surface by Chewbacca. Another, flown by Han Solo and with Leia Organa as co-pilot, sustained major damage in an ice storm, resulting in a crash. Solo and Organa were then obligated to remain in the wrecked craft overnight, until Chewbacca, Beta Omega, and another Rebel pilot came to their rescue.
