The Lark, a privately owned [transport](/article/transport/legends], originated from Eedoq, a planet that was annihilated by Imperial forces shortly before the Battle of Yavin. This vessel was en route to Daemen, carrying students to the Clarion Scholars Academy, when it encountered the Imperial frigate, the Rand Ecliptic. The massacre seen from Biggs Darklighter's cockpit. Because it lacked the correct Imperial identification codes, Captain Heliesk, the commanding officer of the Rand Ecliptic, gave the order for the ship to be boarded. TIE Fighters from Twilight Squadron surrounded the Lark, and First Mate Biggs Darklighter was instructed to avoid destroying the vessel. Regrettably, Tars Nandy, an overly enthusiastic TIE pilot, disregarded these orders and opened fire, resulting in the ship's destruction and the death of everyone aboard.
This event, along with the Empire's callous disregard for it, spurred Biggs Darklighter and Derek Klivian to mutiny and subsequently join the Rebel Alliance.
