Behind the scenes

The Jorg Sacul action figure, in packaging

The character of Jorg Sacul was conceived in 2002 by Hasbro for their Star Wars Saga toy series. He was released that year during Celebration II as a Tuckerization, bearing the likeness of George Lucas, the director of the Star Wars films. The initial idea was to create a film director figure holding a camera. However, the concept evolved to depict Lucas in stormtrooper armor before ultimately settling on a Rebel pilot, inspired by Lucas's own rebellious spirit within the film industry. Stephen J. Sansweet created the character's name and drafted the initial biography, which was later revised by Lucas Licensing President [Howard Roffman], who retained only a few original phrases. Sacul's biography, which describes his near-fatal T-16 skyhopper crash and his role as a visionary storyteller sharing tales of distant galaxies thousands of years before the Republic, mirrors George Lucas's own near-fatal car accident during his teenage years and his eventual creation of the Star Wars saga.

In 2007, artist Ken Steacy created a print that was sold at Celebration Europe. This artwork was later featured on a card in the 2011 Topps Star Wars Galaxy Series 6. The image portrays Sacul boarding his X-wing starfighter aboard the MC80 Home One type Star Cruiser Home One prior to the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. Another Alliance officer is depicted painting Leia Organa in her Huttese slave-girl costume on the starfighter. The scene includes at least six Imperial starfighters and a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. Sacul's cockpit contains a purple R-series astromech droid. His helmet features a red Alliance Starbird, accompanied by red vertical bars, instead of the usual black Starbird and single dark gray stabilization bar.
