A Geonosian spire
Spires of Geonosian design were towering rock structures, hollow in their construction, fashioned by the Geonosians. These served as hive-mounds on the planet of Geonosis.
These spires functioned as both long-term Geonosian residences and as short-term shelters from the hazardous radiation storms common on the planet. Geonosian laborers erected these immense towers using a rocky, pasty substance created by combining pulverized stone with the waste products of parasitic organisms known as Phidna.
Once hardened, the reddish-hued spires resembled natural extensions of the landscape, effectively concealing the insectoid inhabitants' homes from outside observers and giving the impression that the planet was deserted. Within Geonosis's challenging environment, these spires also provided defense against the aggressive indigenous predators. The deliberately coarse exterior concealed an interior design marked by elegance and sophistication, featuring flowing curves and arched windows.
The expansive hive structures frequently delved far beneath the surface, often accommodating sizable CIS droid factories and facilities dedicated to weapons production. Geonosian breeding chambers were located below these factories. Even further down were the extensive living quarters and the Queen's chamber. The catacombs stretched for many miles below these areas.
Several spires stood out on Geonosis, including the Stalgasin hive, which held the position of primary and ruling hive, along with the Gehenbar hive and the Golbah hive.
Shortly before the Clone Wars began, Obi-Wan Kenobi secretly infiltrated a Geonosian spire, where he overheard high-ranking CIS members discussing highly classified strategies. Subsequently, another spire became a command post for the CIS during the Battle of Geonosis, housing a holographic map of the battlefield and serving as the headquarters for Poggle the Lesser, Count Dooku, and several Neimoidian leaders. Delta Squad members infiltrated a Geonosian hive, successfully destroying a droid manufacturing plant. During the conflict, a clone trooper unit launched an attack on another spire in close proximity to a group of Hardcell-class transports and Separatist bunkers.
