The Xyloxan served as a musical instrument that incorporated tone bars. These bars could be crafted from bodhar bones. The musician named Ubert Quaril played a xyloxan at the castle owned by the pirate Maz Kanata on the planet called Takodana, approximately three decades following the Battle of Endor.
The xyloxan made its initial debut as a physical prop within the movie Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which premiered during 2015. Its identification was absent within the film itself, but it received a name in the companion book titled Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, penned by Pablo Hidalgo and published the day following the movie's release.
