Venom Zero, also referred to as "VZ," functioned as a squad of Venom assault troopers within the Galactic Alliance Core Fleet throughout the Second Imperial Civil War. This unit was considered a top-tier force. Unlike other squads, Venom Zero lacked a permanent assignment to a specific Sabertooth-class assault/rescue vessel; instead, it was routinely reassigned among various ships based on mission requirements. Similar to other Venom assault squads, Venom Zero received training in close-quarters combat, combat in zero-G environments, and approaches to boarding enemy ships. When not actively engaged in combat, Venom Zero's responsibilities included providing advanced combat training to other squads.
Like other squads of Venom assault troopers, Venom Zero was well-equipped for close-quarters combat and boarding operations. Their standard gear included Venom Assault armor, a powered armor suit that was vacuum-sealed and included restricted jump jet capabilities for maneuvering in zero-G environments. They also carried blaster carbines, vibroswords, and different types of grenades, including stun, concussion, and gas grenades. In addition, floating surveillance droids were deployed for reconnaissance or employed as programmable offensive platforms.

Venom Zero was an exceptional squad of Venom assault troopers incorporated into the Galactic Alliance Core Fleet in 137 ABY, participating in the Second Imperial Civil War. Mirroring all Venom assault squads, Venom Zero—also known as "VZ"—focused on boarding actions between ships, fighting in zero-G conditions, and hand-to-hand fighting. Venom assault squads, launching from Sabertooth-class assault/rescue vessels, infiltrated enemy vessels when their carrier used the "teeth" located on the front to secure itself to the target. The squads would then rapidly enter the captured vessel from multiple entry points, suppressing enemy forces and achieving mission objectives.
While the majority of Venom assault squads were permanently stationed on a single Sabertooth-class vessel, Venom Zero lacked a fixed location. Instead, it was consistently shifted among the ships within the Core Fleet, being assigned to the vessel where its skills were most crucial. When not actively fighting, Venom Zero delivered advanced training to the squads present on the ship they were currently assigned to.
Venom Zero appeared in Legacy Era Campaign Guide by Wizards of the Coast, released on March 17, 2009.
