Till

Till, a pilot of starfighters who was male and Human, held the rank of ensign within the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. His life was tragically ended while on a routine patrol mission within the Dreighton Triangle. A newly developed TIE Phantom starfighter belonging to the Galactic Empire utilized its cloaking device to ambush his flight group. The attack damaged Commander Jenn's X-wing, resulting in a collision with Till's fighter; the subsequent explosion destroyed both craft.

Biography

Around 3 ABY, Till, a male Human, became a starfighter pilot in the Alliance to Restore the Republic, achieving the rank of ensign. Not long after the Battle of Hoth, and before he had experienced any combat, he was assigned to a routine patrol mission in the Dreighton Triangle as part of a flight group led by Commander Jenn, which consisted of three T-65 X-wing starfighters. The Rebel pilots were unaware that the Galactic Empire was secretly testing the TIE Phantom in that area, a new starfighter equipped with a cloaking device that made it invisible to other vessels. The Empire was using reports of strange occurrences in the region since the Battle of Dreighton during the Clone Wars as a cover for these tests. After an initial pass that revealed nothing, Jenn ordered one more pass before heading back to base. However, just seconds later, a TIE Phantom emerged from cloak behind Jenn's X-wing and began to fire upon the group. The damage to her stabilizers caused her X-wing to lose control and crash into Till's X-wing. Both fighters were destroyed in the resulting explosion, killing both pilots.

Personality and traits

Till was a young and relatively inexperienced member of the Alliance, known for his tendency to be talkative during stressful situations. He developed a strong friendship with his commander, Jenn, who often teased him. When assigned to patrol the Dreighton Nebula, he voiced his worries to Jenn about the tales of ghost ships in the area and expressed his desire to return to base quickly. Prior to his final mission, Till had never experienced combat, and he met his end without even seeing the TIE Phantom that attacked him, due to its cloaking technology.

Behind the scenes

Till's character was created for the 1995 video game Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire, developed by LucasArts, where he appears in the game's opening cutscene. Actor Michael Aron played the role of Till in the game.

Y-wing pilot helmet from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi reused for Till

Vincent Lee, the designer of Rebel Assault II, created storyboards and scripts, dated November 16, 1994, that included a brief description of Till. Although not included in the final game or its manual, this biography was adapted for use on the LucasArts website and was later published in Rogue Leaders: The Story of LucasArts by Rob Smith. While the online biography does not specify Till's age, Lee's original notes indicated that he was in his early twenties. Lee also noted that he envisioned actor Woody Harrelson as embodying the character of Till. Early storyboards of the scene featuring Till show that his flight group was initially named "Gamma patrol," but this name was not used in the final version of the game.

During the production of Rebel Assault II, props and costumes from the original trilogy of Star Wars films were utilized. The flight helmet worn by Till, as well as by other pilots in the game, was originally made for a Y-wing pilot in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.
