Blaster rack

Swblasterrack A blaster rack onboard the first Death Star Blaster racks served as compact, wall-affixed storage units. Their purpose was to keep blasters and other weaponry readily available. The Galactic Empire frequently employed them during the Galactic Civil War.

Description

Blaster racks came in a number of designs. One version featured numerous sheaths connected to a slanted wall section, accompanied by a long bar on the floor. This setup was designed to hold a weapon upright at an angle, resting its base on the floor. Another design consisted of simple wall-mounted hooks for hanging weapons, also vertically, but entirely off the ground and without the slant. Both designs could accommodate a range of armaments, including blaster rifles and thermal detonators.

History

A blaster rack in the back of the second Death Star's command center

The Galactic Empire made widespread use of blaster racks within their various installations, such as Death Stars and garrison bases. They strategically positioned them in key areas, enabling soldiers to quickly arm themselves when needed. On the first Death Star, Docking Bay 327's control room included a slanted blaster rack that could accommodate four weapons. This rack was destroyed during the Battle of Yavin when the Rebel Alliance succeeded in destroying the battle station in 0 BBY. Its successor, the Death Star II, also featured a blaster rack in its command center. This rack was of the non-slanted variety and could hold at least two blasters. It housed two A280 blaster rifles and met the same fate when the second Death Star was destroyed at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY.
