The Hassks were a sentient species originating from the world of Hasskyn. Their bodies were almost entirely covered by fur, save for their faces, which displayed gray skin. Possessing acute hearing and exceptional night vision, they were well-equipped for hunting. Often perceived as little more than wild beasts, Hassks existed within a rudimentary culture characterized by limited technological advancement. Upon their initial exposure to space travel, many abandoned their home world, seeking out other planets to cause chaos, particularly in disreputable locations. Some Hassks became members of Kragan Gorr's pirate gang. The notorious Hassk triplets were known troublemakers who frequented Takodana Castle.
Hassks belonged to a species of subhumanoids that were native to the planet Hasskyn. Almost their entire bodies were covered by cream-colored fur. However, their faces were devoid of hair, revealing skin that was either grey or cornflower blue. They possessed sensitive ears, and prominent forward-facing eyes that could exhibit an orange hue, granting them excellent night vision. Their mouths were filled with sharp fangs suitable for tearing flesh, and they had powerful jaws capable of inflicting significant damage.

Despite exhibiting sentience, Hassks displayed a fierce disposition, reminiscent of wild animals, and maintained a primitive culture. Multiple births were a common occurrence within their species, with siblings often referred to as littermates.
When they were first introduced to advanced technology, Hassks were ill-prepared for its influence on their moral compass. As a result, many departed Hasskyn with their littermates to wander the galaxy, causing disturbances in unsavory establishments.
One Hassk served within the ranks of the Gray Gundarks speeder bike gang during their attempt to seize the lost treasure belonging to the Sith Lord Count Dooku on the planet Ponemah Terminal sometime after the Battle of Endor.
Several Hassk pirates, including Tooms and Snarl, were members of Kragan Gorr's pirate gang during the era of the New Republic.
Varmik, accompanied by his two brothers, together known as the Hassk triplets, were known patrons of the castle owned by the pirate Maz Kanata approximately thirty years following the Battle of Endor. While these thugs frequently tried to create problems in the main hall of the castle, other beings maintained order.

The Hassks made their debut appearance in the junior novel titled Smuggler's Run: A Han Solo & Chewbacca Adventure, authored by Greg Rucka and published in 2015.
Varmik, a Hassk portrayed by Paul Warren, can be seen at Takodana Castle in the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
