Star


Starkiller charging A celestial body is being depleted of its energy to fuel the Starkiller Base weapon of mass destruction. Stellar objects were enormous, radiant spheres composed of ionized gas and gases, capable of generating their own luminosity and power. When these stellar objects served as the focal point of a solar system, they were commonly called suns.

Overview

Stellar objects were substantial cosmic entities that emitted heat, light, and electromagnetic waves. They consisted of a central region of He and H matter undergoing combustion in a plasma state. The intense heat facilitated atomic joining, resulting in temperatures around 5,500 degrees on the "photosphere," or inner surface. A more temperate layer of gas, known as the "chromosphere," surrounded the photosphere and gave the star its unique hue. The outer atmosphere, which was made up of sparse gas, was located at the star's edge.

During the High Republic period, stars were categorized based on their chemical composition, such as R-type stars, which had an unusually high concentration of N. Extended exposure to the sun could darken a person's skin. Officer Tonra typically had fair skin, but after two weeks in the sun, his skin became noticeably redder. Infants required protection from the sun; Sola Naberrie had to obtain sun protection for her newborn, Ryoo, before spending the day outdoors. Flora also obtained nourishment from the sun's rays.

Star Classifications

Within the galaxy, there existed seven primary types of main sequence stars:

  • " A " stars were white and had a lifespan ranging from four hundred million to two billion years. For instance: Colu . [3]

  • " G " stars were yellow and had a lifespan of ten billion years. For instance: Corell . [3]

  • " K " stars were orange and had a lifespan of sixty billion years. For instance: Yavin . [3]

  • " M " stars were red, emitting minimal light and heat, and had an extended lifespan exceeding one hundred trillion years. These were also known as red dwarfs. For instance: Barab . [3]

The sequence started with the largest O-class stars and gradually decreased in size to the smallest M-class stars.

There were also other unusual types of stars that did not precisely fit into this system. One example is Asar, which is regarded as a blue dwarf, as well as yellow dwarfs.

The Circle of Stellar Existence

Inception

Stars originated in regions of outer space referred to as stellar nurseries. This involved the convergence of energy in the forms of pressure and heat, which shaped the surrounding space and was visible from millions of km away. The demise of a cloud of interstellar gas or the initiation of a world's core by an external force could also lead to the creation of a star. Chirrut Îmwe once stated that the "strongest stars" contained kyber crystals at their core. During their formation, a process that spanned millions of years, stars were classified as either protostars or brown dwarfs, with the latter being too small to sustain hydrogen fusion and eventually fading away.

Stellar Objects and Worlds

After reaching their maximum size, stars often began to release gas and dust, which coalesced into planets and other celestial bodies. In such cases, the stars were referred to as suns. A sun, along with all the bodies gravitationally bound to it, constituted a solar system. Some solar systems contained multiple suns, as was the case with the planets Tatooine and Mon Cala. Life depended on the presence of stars.

A planet orbiting a star typically received light and heat from it, although there were exceptions. Umbara was known as the "Shadow World" because the rays of its sun never fully reached the planet's surface, resulting in perpetual darkness. Distant stars appeared as mere points of light in the night sky. These points of light were conventionally grouped into star patterns. Without a star, most worlds would become lifeless and frozen. The size and distance of a sun greatly influenced the characteristics of a planet orbiting it.

On the world of Coruscant, stars were difficult to observe due to the pervasive urban lights of the sprawling world-city. However, according to young Obi-Wan Kenobi, they could be seen if one knew where to look. Stars could be used for direction: After attempting to assist fellow Jedi Youngling Gehren Rand, who had run away, young Kenobi used the stars to navigate his way back to the Jedi Enclave.

Demise

After progressing through the main sequence, the fusion reactions within a star gradually ceased, causing it to expand into a blue or red giant. Just before the fusion reactions completely stopped, the stars transformed into red supergiants, which soon collapsed upon themselves in a cataclysmic explosion known as a supernova. Exploding stars then became either a highly radioactive neutron star or, in the case of particularly large stars, a singularity within a black hole. Small to medium-sized stars evolved into white dwarfs, which eventually faded into black dwarfs over billions of years.

Stellar Significance in Culture

Resistance member Karé Kun once described stars as "massive spheres of exploding gas." Head of State Dreand Yens once commented that stars only appeared to twinkle in the sky because they were burning to stay alive, which he took as evidence that nature's beauty was rooted in function.
