The supposed workers from Skywalker Technical Maintenance Service are seen standing near an entrance, while the energy lathe they pledged to repair is left untouched.
Skywalker Technical Maintenance Service was a fictitious enterprise concocted by the droids C-3PO and R2-D2. They used it as a false identity while attempting to avoid Imperial stormtroopers on the streets of Mos Eisley on the desert planet Tatooine.
Following the Battle of Tatooine, the two droids made their escape from their vessel, the Tantive IV, and were subsequently pursued by Imperial forces, who were after the strategically important Death Star Plans hidden within R2-D2 during the battle's final moments. In accordance with a Command Control Instruction, R2-D2 sought out Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi Knight, bringing along C-3PO and Luke Skywalker, the farm boy from Tatooine who had become their master. Kenobi brought Skywalker and the droids to Mos Eisley with the objective of hiring a starship to transport the plans to the Rebel Alliance.
While the two humans were arranging the sale of Skywalker's X-34 landspeeder, the two droids were left to proceed on their own to the spaceport's Docking Bay 94. They encountered Stormtroopers searching the streets for them and discovered that the docking bay entrance was locked. R2-D2, dismissing C-3PO's reservations, knocked on a nearby door. The shop's owner answered, and R2-D2 stated that the droids were there to perform maintenance. C-3PO translated and then spontaneously invented the company's name.
C-3PO informed the owner that the newly established business was conducting a promotional campaign. He claimed that its employees were going door to door, offering complimentary repairs, recalibrations, and system checks on specified equipment. To emphasize the urgency, C-3PO added that it was a limited-time offer. The inaugural and sole customer of Skywalker Technical Maintenance Service accepted the proposition. He instructed the two droids to service an energy lathe that was malfunctioning. He then left them to work independently and departed on an errand.
Observing that stormtroopers were still conducting a systematic search of the area, the two droids secured the door and waited for them to pass. Upon reopening the door, they noticed Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi heading towards Docking Bay 94. Upon reuniting with their new master, the two employees of Skywalker Technical Maintenance Service abandoned their promised task without even attempting to improve the energy lathe's unsatisfactory condition.
Skywalker Technical Maintenance Service was a very small operation. Its workforce consisted entirely of one astromech droid and one protocol droid. Indeed, it was such a small operation that its supposed leader, Luke Skywalker, was probably unaware of its existence.
