A unit of length utilized across the galaxy was the meter, which the Galactic Empire referred to as the Imperial standard meter. It was defined as being equal to 100 centimeters, or alternatively, 1000 millimeters, and was roughly the same length as three feet. It is important to note that, despite its association with the Empire, the meter was also in use during the time of the Galactic Republic.

General Jan Dodonna, while analyzing the plans for the Death Star, discovered a vulnerable point: a small thermal exhaust port that led directly to the battle station's reactor core. This exhaust port had a width of only two meters, making it possible for a small starfighter to launch an attack. Luke Skywalker believed that this was possible, stating that he used to shoot womp rats back home with his T-16, and these creatures were around two meters in size. During the Battle of Yavin, Skywalker succeeded in firing a proton torpedo into the exhaust port, resulting in the destruction of the Death Star.
