Despite the fierce battle that followed, Ralan outlasted his comrades, successfully eliminating the remaining rakghouls before finally succumbing to the injuries he sustained. Considering he didn't become a rakghoul, it's likely his fatal injuries were inflicted by weapons, rather than rakghoul bites.
