House Guard

House Barnaba Guard The House Guard represented a component of the House Defense Forces belonging to the Tapani Noble Houses. Their responsibility involved safeguarding the assets of their respective houses, both inside and outside the house's designated province.

The majority of guards were positioned within the boundaries of the house's province, where they were responsible for enforcing the decrees of the noble families. Smaller detachments were also present in house embassies. Furthermore, officially sanctioned envoys from the sector received escorts comprised of carefully selected House Guards when traveling to different regions of the galaxy.

Membership in the House Guard was available to individuals of both genders; however, the physical standards expected of troopers and officers were exceptionally demanding. Only 20% of male human applicants successfully completed the required evaluations, while a mere 2% of female human applicants achieved the same. Nearly all Herglics passed the assessments, whereas no Mrlssti had ever done so by the time of the Galactic Empire. While the majority of recruits came from noble backgrounds, numerous capable officers were commoners who advanced through the ranks. House Guard officers received extensive training and were provided with the finest resources their houses could provide.

Due to the house patronage system, many unqualified individuals gained entry into the House Guards. However, the officer corps were skilled at identifying these individuals and subtly encouraging them to seek alternative employment through unofficial, unacknowledged, and anonymous methods. These methods included severe hazing and career sabotage, though never in a manner that would jeopardize house security or the troops under their command.

Rivalry, generally of a friendly nature, was common among House Guard regiments from different houses. Spies and partisan operatives were frequently present within their ranks.
