Explorer Submergible

The Explorer Submergible represented an Aquatic Assault Vehicle (AAV) produced for the Galactic Empire by Design Team Beta of the Hydrospeare Corporation. Constructed with a lightweight link-steel hull reinforced with burthan threads, it could resist waterpressure of 8,000 bps, which is equivalent to a depth of 5 kilometers in the oceans of most planets. Movement was achieved by scuttling along the seabed, using sconce grip legs to gain traction. The vehicle's interior was quite confined, forcing both passengers into a tight space, and requiring all crew members except the turret gunner to lie prone. The pressure-sealed access hatch for entry and exit was situated on the vehicle's lower surface.

Initially, the Empire envisioned the Explorer as a versatile amphibious assault vehicle capable of operating across various terrains and environments. Dr. Tolum Harous, the project's leader, dedicated himself to meeting the Empire's initial specifications; however, the project's logistical challenges made it impossible to create a single design that functioned effectively on both land and in water. The design team was unable to achieve the required speed underwater and maneuverability on land to satisfy the Empire's dual requirements. Consequently, the Empire chose a design exclusively for underwater exploration and warfare. Despite Harous's desire to continue pursuing the original concept, Design Team Beta persuaded him to focus on developing the Explorer as a submergible vehicle, which became one of the first AAVs. Even so, the Explorer Submergible significantly boosted Hydrospeare Corporation's reputation, establishing it as one of the most renowned designs alongside the AT-AT Swimmer.

Despite its official designation as an "underwater exploration vehicle," its substantial weaponry was intended for eliminating or suppressing dangerous aquatic creatures.
