Danu was a Human female and sibling to Queen Sarna of Drogheda, who held her royal position during the time of the Galactic Civil War. After the Battle of Endor, Danu secretly provided support to a widespread uprising aimed at toppling the monarchy and establishing a democratic system, acting as a crucial liaison for the insurgents within the Drogheda Citadel. In 4 ABY, Danu played a vital role in the revolution's triumph, which resulted in her sister's banishment.
Danu, a Human female, originated from the planet of Drogheda, a world that continued to be governed by a traditional monarchy well into the Imperial Period. Following the Battle of Endor, when their planet experienced instability and turmoil due to the disintegration of the Galactic Empire's authority, Danu became the sister of Sarna, who was then the Queen of Drogheda. A significant consequence of Endor on Drogheda was the emergence of a popular revolution that sought to replace the monarchy with a democratic government. Danu, sympathetic to the rebels' objectives, became their contact inside the Drogheda Citadel, communicating with them directly through a crystal transmitter she wore as a necklace. As the revolution gained momentum in 4 ABY, Queen Sarna hired Lando Calrissian, a former smuggler who had become a hero of the Rebel Alliance, to safeguard her throne. Sarna then tasked Danu with meeting Calrissian upon his arrival on Drogheda. While escorting Calrissian to the Citadel, Danu and he were attacked and nearly plunged over a cliff to their deaths. However, Harlech, the Commander of the Royal Guard, arrived just in time to save them.
Subsequently, Sarna dispatched Danu to observe a planned assault on a rebel camp at Mount Meru Mine, where she witnessed government forces shooting down fleeing individuals. Although they captured one living prisoner, a man named Dar, Harlech murdered him within the Citadel when Calrissian attempted to interrogate him – Danu arrived on the scene immediately after Dar had been shot. As tensions escalated into open conflict between Sarna and Calrissian—who had learned the truth about the situation on Drogheda and refused to oppose the people's right to self-determination—Danu finally revealed herself as the rebels' contact within the palace, signaling the start of a rebel attack on the Citadel by detonating the building's armory. Ultimately, Calrissian acted as a diversion, keeping Sarna's guards occupied long enough for the rebels to capture the palace and force the monarchy out of power. Although appreciative of Calrissian's efforts, Danu compelled him to leave the planet immediately and paid him to take Sarna into exile.
Danu's relationship with her sister, the Queen of Drogheda, defined her, leading to a strained personal dynamic with Sarna. Her political views ultimately caused her to oppose her sister regarding the future of the planet's government. Despite initially being unimpressed by Lando Calrissian, Danu realized she was attracted to him upon his return to Drogheda and enjoyed provoking her sister by expressing her interest in him. Danu possessed exceptional combat skills and was an excellent shot with a blaster, taking pride in her abilities.
Danu made an appearance in Star Wars (1977) 83, which was penned by Linda Grant, with illustrations by Bob McLeod, and was released in 1984.
