The Brubbs were two-legged reptilian beings originating from Baros, a planet located within the Baros system. To survive the harsh conditions of their arid homeworld, which was prone to frequent sandstorms, Brubb ancestors developed adaptations such as resilient, thick skin and sturdy, translucent membranes protecting their eyes. Given the scarcity of sounds beyond the constant wind on Baros, Brubbs possessed severely limited hearing. Their high-gravity home environment resulted in Brubbs being remarkably strong relative to their size, which ranged from 1.5 to 1.7 meters. They also had a rudimentary camouflage ability, capable of altering their skin color within a limited spectrum of yellow to greenish-gray.

Brubbs exhibited a highly developed social nature, congregating in expansive communal units known as habas. Typically, habas consisted of extended families that collaboratively reared children and jointly managed specialized enterprises, which could include farms, mines, or even holiday resorts. However, certain "university" habas were formed by selecting the most talented individuals from various other habas. These elite groups possessed technology that neared galactic standards, particularly in the fields of wind and solar energy. According to Obo Rin's Catalog of Intelligent Life in the Galaxy, a university haba initiated first contact with the wider galaxy by transmitting radio signals that eventually attracted the attention of the Galactic Empire. Nevertheless, some evidence suggests earlier interactions between Brubbs and other inhabited planets. For example, in 32 BBY, a cantina located in Mos Espa on Tatooine was known as "The Blue Brubb".
Each haba was led by its ten oldest members. Given that female Brubbs typically had shorter lifespans due to the physical demands of egg-laying, leadership positions were almost exclusively held by males. Coinciding with the Brubbs' initial contact with aliens, many female Brubbs advocated for equal representation in haba leadership, protesting by abstaining from laying eggs at the same time.

Due to Baros's high gravity, limited natural resources, and relatively primitive technology, Brubbs engaged in minimal interstellar commerce. The primary export was the Brubbs themselves; their inherent strength and resilience made them highly sought-after mercenaries and laborers. Jabba the Hutt employed some Brubbs as guards aboard his sail barge, Khetanna. Others, owing to their affable disposition and distinctive appearance, became "ornamental" individuals, serving as retainers for affluent residents of the Core Worlds.
