Barriss Offee, a Mirialan female strong in the Force, served as a Jedi healer and achieved the rank of Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars. Born in 40 BBY to parents she would never see again, Offee was discovered as an infant by the Jedi Order and taken to the Jedi Temple located on Coruscant, the galactic capital. When the time came for her training to commence as a Jedi Padawan, she became the apprentice of Jedi Master Luminara Unduli, also a Mirialan, who taught her about the Force in addition to the traditions of their shared culture. In 22 BBY, as the Separatist Crisis intensified, Offee assisted Unduli in helping Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, resolve a border disagreement on Ansion. Their combined efforts led to an agreement between the Unity of Community and the indigenous Alwari tribes, preventing the strategically important world from withdrawing from the Galactic Republic.
Subsequently, Offee was a member of the Jedi task force dispatched to rescue Kenobi, Skywalker, and Senator Padmé Amidala from Geonosis, where the Confederacy of Independent Systems had condemned them to death. The following Battle of Geonosis marked the beginning of the Clone Wars, during which Offee became a Jedi Commander, leading clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic alongside her Master. In addition to defending the Crystal Caves of Ilum that belonged to the Jedi Order and utilizing her healing abilities on New Holstice and Null, Offee befriended Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's Padawan, during the Second Battle of Geonosis. During that campaign, Offee and Tano destroyed a significant Geonosian battle droid foundry and suppressed a subsequent outbreak of Geonosian brain worms that controlled minds. In 20 BBY, Offee was assigned to the crew of Republic Mobile Surgical Unit 7 stationed on Drongar. Despite the rising allure of the dark side, Offee overcame the trial and was promoted to Jedi Knight.
Because she believed the Jedi had strayed from the light because of their increased militarization in the Clone Wars, she collaborated with activist Letta Turmond to stage a bombing at the Jedi Temple as a way to express her concerns. Offee then falsely accused her friend Tano of the bombing and the subsequent murder of Turmond. Although Offee disguised herself as former Separatist bounty hunter Asajj Ventress to further deceive Tano and ensure her friend's arrest, Skywalker uncovered the truth. After Skywalker defeated her, Offee admitted to her crimes at Tano's trial before being taken into Republic custody. Sometime near the end of the war, Offee was released and took Zonder as her padawan. While on Felucia, she was leading a squad when she was killed when Order 66 was issued by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, making her a victim of the Great Jedi Purge.
Offee was born on a starliner while it was in deep space. She was then brought to the Jedi Temple, where she would spend her early years studying the Force. When Offee was around three or four years old, she was playing with a blue ball in one of the Jedi Temple's antechambers. When the ball rolled out of her reach and into one of the large main chambers, Offee used the Force to pull the ball back to her instead of going after it. As she picked it up, Grand Master Yoda was standing behind her at the far entrance of the antechamber, impressed by what he had witnessed.

At some point, Offee became a Padawan under the guidance of Jedi Master Luminara Unduli. Early in her training, she visited Mirial, the homeworld of her species. At the age of sixteen, she constructed her own lightsaber. During this time, Offee learned the proper lightsaber hand grip from Tutso Mara, who also helped her refine her combat skills over time. Additionally, she occasionally trained with Anakin Skywalker, but they never spoke to each other.
After a long session of hand-to-hand combat training, Offee practiced with her lightsaber, which left her arms feeling sore. Following the practice, Offee and her Master went to a high-walled balcony located two hundred flights above the ground level. There, Unduli instructed Offee to perform the Floating Meditation, observe the small bakery across the way, and count the number of pastries she saw in the window. As she attempted to lift herself off the floor, Unduli reminded her that Jedi do not limit themselves by "trying," to which Offee agreed. Despite her continued efforts, Offee was unable to levitate, and her repeated attempts caused her rear and thighs to become numb from the cold ferrocrete.
Hours later, Unduli returned to the balcony, and Offee felt that she had failed the task, but her Master responded that one could fail at a task and still learn a lesson. She recalled her own experience learning the Floating Meditation and shared with Barriss the story of the old man's river crossing, asking if she understood the lesson. Offee immediately felt foolish for not understanding the task, realizing that she could have simply stood up and looked over the wall to count the pastries.
One morning, sometime after the levitation drill, Offee and her Master visited a four-hundred-year-old blackneedle tree at Oa Park on Coruscant. Amidst the laughter of people in the park, Offee briefly thought that the dark side of the Force was far away from her. However, as they stood in the tree's shade, Unduli warned her that it was always a threat. Despite hearing about it many times, Offee did not fully understand what her Master meant, as they moved to a grassy area in the park to practice a Salutation to the Force. Unduli explained to her that every action she took required a choice.
As they practiced the Laser Pose and the Arch Pose of the Salutation, Unduli and Offee discussed her past training with the training remotes, and whether she had ever felt like destroying the remote instead of deflecting the bolts. Unduli warned her Padawan that destroying the remote out of anger, pain, or fear meant reaching for the dark side, against which she should be vigilant. As she assumed the Rocker Pose, Offee asked her Master if she had ever felt the dark side. Unduli replied that she had felt it in a moment of weakness and pain, which had allowed her to survive, but that she would never do it again. She insisted to Offee that if it ever happened to her, she must recognize and resist it, because it would feel empowering, fulfilling, and satisfying.

Shortly before the Clone Wars began, Offee and Unduli, along with Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker, were sent to Ansion to prevent the planet's government from voting to join the Separatists. However, several individuals were determined to ensure the Jedi's mission failed, including the Hutt Soergg Vosadii Bezhin, who had been hired by Shu Mai to thwart them.
The Jedi were permitted to speak with the Unity of Community. Unduli proposed a deal to the Unity: The Jedi would resolve a conflict between the 'city-folk' and the Alwari natives if Ansion agreed to remain within the Galactic Republic and adhere to their rules. The conflict concerned land, so Unduli also stated that they would persuade the Alwari to agree to share at least half of their land. The Unity agreed, and the Jedi departed.
Before the Jedi could begin their mission, two Alwari named Kyakhta and Bulgan were hired by Soergg to capture one of the Padawans. They caught Offee and held her prisoner, but both Alwari were mentally impaired, allowing Offee to gain their trust by healing them. Subsequently, Kyakhta and Bulgan agreed to serve as guides for the Jedi. To secure the treaty with the Alwari, they would first need to locate them, specifically the Borokii overclan. The Jedi left the city shortly after, riding suubatar. They soon encountered more trouble with gairks in a stream but overcame this obstacle as well.
Eventually, the Jedi managed to meet with the Yiwa, a lesser but still significant clan of the Alwari Qiemo Adrangar tribal faction. Initially, the Yiwa mistrusted the Jedi, and the Highborn clan leader, Mazong, requested that each of them give a performance demonstrating that, beyond ability, they also possessed "inner essence, unlike the representatives of the great but soulless Senate." After this, the Yiwa would decide whether to reveal the location of the overclan. Offee performed a compass dance, an acrobatics display of movement and light (using her lightsaber), which greatly impressed the Alwari, as well as Skywalker. After the other Jedi had given their presentations, the Yiwa told them where the overclan could be found, and they set off again.
Later, the Jedi encountered a group of Gwurran. After indulging the pygmy-like creatures' intense curiosity about the strange "outlanders," the Jedi left, but Tooqui, a Gwurran, accompanied them. Shortly after, the Jedi met with a non-traditional clan of traders called the Qulun. The Jedi and their Ansionian guides were offered food and welcomed into their camp. However, the clan leader Baiuntu was working for Soergg and managed to capture the Jedi. Fortunately, Tooqui escaped and rescued the six of them shortly after.
The Jedi soon reached the Borokii overclan, to whom they presented their proposal. The Borokii agreed, but only if the Jedi resolved a conflict between the Borokii and their longtime rival, the Januul, another overclan. The Jedi agreed and ultimately managed to settle the conflict through diplomacy. They then returned to the capital city, Cuipernam, where Soergg delayed them again by hiring thugs to eliminate them. However, the Jedi managed to reach the gathering of the Unity, which was in the process of voting on the matter of secession. Because the Jedi had resolved the border dispute, the Unity voted to remain within the Republic. The Jedi's mission was a success.
When Offee and Unduli returned to Coruscant, Mace Windu dispatched them to Geonosis as part of the strike team to rescue Kenobi, Skywalker, and Padmé Amidala. Although Offee was not among those picked up by Yoda's gunships, she found a way out of the Petranaki arena with several other Jedi, including Pablo-Jill, Roan Shryne, and Bairdon Jace.

Later during the Clone Wars, Offee and Unduli traveled to the ice-world Ilum. This planet was the source of the crystals needed to construct lightsabers. Offee rebuilt her lightsaber in a secret Jedi temple.
As she built her lightsaber, the temple's location was compromised. Separatist chameleon droids had infiltrated the mines and placed explosive charges in the tunnels. Offee and Unduli fought them off but were trapped in the resulting cave-in, using the Force to hold up the roof. This disturbance in the Force reached Yoda, who rescued them.
While her Master guarded Nute Gunray on the Tranquility, Offee oversaw a mission to Geonosis.

Offee and her master were dispatched to Geonosis to assist Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, in destroying the weapons factory led by Poggle the Lesser. Tano and Offee were sent into the catacombs, while Skywalker and Unduli acted as decoys. The Padawans reached their destination but were spotted and attacked by the new Confederate super tank, as well as Geonosians, and the bombs they had planted were removed while they were distracted.
While Tano was stunned, Offee cut a hole through the top of the tank with her lightsaber and entered as the pilots fled. Opening the hatch, she invited the now-conscious Ahsoka into the cockpit. Ahsoka concluded that the only way to destroy the factory was to use the tank's weapons to fire upon the reactor, even though they believed they would likely not survive the explosion.
However, they did not know how effective the shielding on the tank was, which protected the two Padawans from the explosion. Afterward, they were buried under a large amount of debris. Fearing they would die from lack of air, Tano pulled a power cell apart, activating her comlink so their masters could find them. Skywalker picked up the signal, and he and Luminara tracked it to their location and used their Force telekinesis to remove the debris and free their Padawans.
Offee and Tano were transporting a supply ship to the Ord Cestus medical station. The Padawans decided to get some sleep, but Tano couldn't, so they decided to get something to eat. Unbeknownst to them, a clone trooper was leaving brain worm eggs to spread across the ship. While Tano and Offee were eating, two clones tried to kill them, but they incapacitated them. Later in the ship, Trap tried to infect them with the worms; Offee was forced to kill him.

After discovering that the clones on their ship were being controlled by brain worms, Offee and Tano separated. Offee was heading to the engineering section to disable the ship's engines when she walked into a trap set by the clones. She was unable to resist as the clones exposed her to a brain worm, and then she succumbed to the worm's influence. When she found Tano, the two began a duel. Tano tried to convince Offee to resist being controlled, but Offee ignored her and continued the attack. Later, after Tano released coolant that affected the brain worms' control, Offee confronted her in the cockpit. After having super-cooled air blown onto her face, she was able to regain enough control to beg Tano to kill her, ensuring the worm's death. Tano refused. When the worm tried to flee Offee's body and enter Tano's directly, Tano sliced the worm in half, releasing Offee from its mind control.
Offee was present in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when General Grievous sent a message to the Jedi, informing them of his capture of Eeth Koth. Offee witnessed the brutal torturing of the captured Koth. When Master Yoda ordered the younglings to be taken out of the room, Offee accompanied them and some other Jedi.
Commander Offee, aided by Commander Tano, successfully broke through the blockade over the shadow planet of Umbara, allowing clone and Jedi forces to land on the planet in an attempt to capture it. Offee piloted a Delta-7B light interceptor to accomplish this task.
During the Invasion of Coruscant, Offee commanded a squad of clone troopers in the fight against Separatist droid forces. In the underlevels of the city, her squad was overrun by battle droids, including the new C-B3 cortosis battle droids that were resistant to her lightsaber. Just in time, young Anakin Skywalker arrived and managed to push back the droid forces.

Afterward, Offee was sent to the planet Drongar, her first mission without her master. Drongar was home to a valuable plant called bota, a miracle cure for almost anything and for any race, prized by both the Galactic Republic and the Separatists. Offee, a gifted healer, assisted one of the medical units on the planet. Unbeknownst to her, a spy was sneaking around the camp, and several corrupt Republic representatives were illegally shipping bota for their own profit. Offee also met the deadly martial arts instructor, Phow Ji, who despised the Jedi. Ji tested Offee to her limit, but she did not succumb to the dark side. He was eventually killed in a suicidal attack. Offee also mourned the loss of Zan Yant, a Zabrak surgeon who had been her friend.
In a turn of events, she accidentally injected herself with bota, and the natural drug opened up the Force in new and powerful ways. Offee found this quick path to power too addictive and knew that it would lead her toward the dark side of the Force, but she resisted its luring pull. Once she had overcome the inner battle of resisting the dark side, she felt that she had earned the rank of Jedi Knight and General.

Offee's perspective on the Jedi Order underwent a transformation as the Clone Wars neared its conclusion. She orchestrated the Jedi Temple Hangar bombing, an act for which Ahsoka Tano was wrongly accused. While many believed Tano was culpable in the murder of Letta Turmond, a suspect in the bombing, some, including Offee, suspected a setup. Offee feigned assistance to Tano while secretly manipulating her actions. Tano contacted Offee using a public comlink to evade tracking by the clones. Offee directed Tano to an abandoned warehouse to uncover the true culprit, where an individual wielding Ventress's lightsabers and mask confronted Tano in a duel. The confrontation culminated in Tano's fall from a balcony, landing near crates of nano-droids identical to those used in the bombing, leading to her discovery by the clones.
During Tano's trial, Skywalker encountered Ventress, who revealed that another party had stolen her weapons and mask and was the true mastermind. Ventress also disclosed Tano's communication with Offee. Skywalker then questioned Offee, who ultimately confessed to masterminding the bombing. A fierce duel ensued between Offee and Skywalker, ending with Skywalker subduing her with the Force and taking her into custody.
As Tano was on the verge of being declared guilty, Skywalker dramatically entered the court with Offee, who confessed her actions and denounced the Jedi as corrupt, asserting that they were the ones who should be judged. Ahsoka received an apology and an invitation to rejoin the Jedi Order. However, feeling betrayed by their prior lack of faith in her, she declined the offer.

Until the end of the Clone Wars, Offee remained a member of the Jedi Order and continued her association with her former Master. She achieved atonement for her attack on the Temple, and she accepted Zonder as her Padawan. She and her new apprentice were sent to Felucia to work as healers, but they were captured by Gossam Commandos who were in the service of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and imprisoned. Later, the Jedi Aayla Secura and Ekria, along with the clone trooper lieutenant Galle, rescued them. It was later discovered that Presidente Shu Mai of the Commerce Guild had planned to contaminate Felucia's water supply, prompting Offee and Secura to work together to save the planet.
Offee, following Lieutenant Galle, led a squad to Har Gau, while Secura and Commander Bly traveled to Niango. Upon arriving at their destination, Offee's group discovered that the defenders were primarily sentients, not droids, leading them to understand that a direct assault was not feasible. Padawan Drake Lo'gaan, who had accompanied Secura to the planet, sought Galle's assistance for his strategy. Zonder diverted the Gossam Commandos' attention, while Galle and the Padawans launched an attack, eliminating the droids, allowing the Padawans to infiltrate the water plant. Lo'gaan then signaled Galle, instructing him to initiate the next phase of the plan, prompting Galle to order a retreat. The defenders pursued, creating an opening for the Padawans to enter the plant and neutralize the toxins.
As Galle retreated, Bly received an encrypted message from Coruscant, instructing him to execute Order 66, a contingency order that mandated the elimination of all Jedi. Galle and his squad met up with Offee, who was defending against a number of battle droids. Galle stopped, and Offee gave him the order to fire. The lieutenant followed the order; he instructed an AT-TE to fire on Offee, killing her instantly. As Offee died, her former master also died lightyears away. Galle documented Offee's death in incident report #890-F, which was later included in an Order 66 report that Moff Marcellin Wessel compiled and gave to Emperor Palpatine.
When the Galactic Empire rose to power, the official records, which Imperial Advisor Sate Pestage changed from the Order 66 casualty report, claimed that Offee and Secura were both put to death because they were plotting to poison Felucia's water supply. Three months after Offee's death, her friends from Drongar, Den Dhur and I-5YQ, remembered her. In a conversation with the Jedi Knight Jax Pavan, who had sensed her die through the Force, Den Dhur had come to terms with her death. Furthermore, I-Five realized that he was self-aware thanks to the help of his friends, including Offee. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi remembered Barriss Offee along with Ali-Alann as he exiled himself to watch over young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.

Barriss Offee possessed a reflective and perceptive nature. Though generally reserved, she possessed a resilient spirit. As a Padawan, she exhibited a tendency towards impulsiveness, which some senior Jedi disapproved of. She once expressed a preference for resolving conflicts with a lightsaber rather than through diplomacy, finding it more direct.
However, Padawan Offee also demonstrated a deeply compassionate nature through her growing talent as a healer, particularly towards the marginalized individuals of the galaxy, such as the clanless Ansonians Kyakhta and Bulgan, whom she cured of mental ailments, and the ridiculed Gwurran Tooqui, whom she befriended.
Offee was also selfless, willing to sacrifice her own life for the sake of others. This was evident when she and Ahsoka Tano destroyed a droid factory from within during the Second Battle of Geonosis, fully aware that they would likely perish in the process. Fortunately, they survived due to being inside a heavily armored tank. Offee and Tano became friends during this mission. Shortly after, while escorting a medical frigate, Offee was infected by one of the Geonosian brain worms that had infested the ship. While dueling Tano, she briefly resisted the worm's influence, pleading with Tano to kill her, believing it was the only way to stop the parasites. This demonstrated her strong will.
Offee was initially devoted to her master, Luminara Unduli, and remained almost constantly by Unduli's side during her apprenticeship. After becoming a Jedi Knight, Offee remained uncertain about whether she deserved the rank, but after resisting the dark side's temptation during a mission on Drongar, she gained confidence in her promotion. Offee held a somewhat unconventional view of the Force, believing that the light side and dark side were merely concepts and that the Force itself was neither good nor evil, a view that contrasted with the prevailing Jedi belief that the light side was good and the dark side was evil.
However, she began to question the Jedi Order's role as peacekeepers, eventually concluding that the Jedi Council only believed in violence. Offee decided that the Council were nothing more than arrogant, violent tyrants, and was determined to bring down the Order since she became convinced that it had become corrupt. However, Offee's change of heart shaped her into a zealot who was prepared to allow her friend Ahsoka Tano to almost be executed, and to kill innocents such as Letta Turmond as well as many clone troopers.
Offee also manipulated and lied to the Order, allowing Tano to be blamed for the bombing. Nevertheless, when Anakin Skywalker took her in custody, Offee did confess. When placed on trial, Offee stated defiantly that the Jedi Order were pawns of the dark side. However, the aggression she displayed in her duels with Tano and Skywalker proved that Barriss had ultimately become the very thing she intended to destroy, in attempting to fight against the corruption of the Jedi, she herself had become corrupted.

Barriss Offee possessed the ability to utilize Floating Meditation and was a proficient Jedi Healer, a skill that proved valuable during the Clone Wars. On Ilum, she demonstrated a high level of telekinetic ability and, alongside her master, was able to support the cave's roof until Yoda arrived to rescue them. She also employed this ability to transfer explosive charges onto the chameleon droid intruders and crush a few more by bringing the roof down on them.
After turning against the Jedi Order, Offee's powers increased significantly, enabling her to Force Choke Letta Turmond to death without being in the same room, or even needing a live feed to focus. She also exhibited remarkable stealth, managing to evade the Force senses of both Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress, both of whom had considerable Force senses. Offee was able to stun Ventress, a well known Jedi killer who had previously slain even Jedi Masters, effortlessly by ambushing her and telekinetically hurling debris at her before slamming her over the head with a pipe.

Like her Master, Offee practiced the Soresu fighting style and her ability with her lightsaber was great enough for her to survive the ferocious battle of Geonosis, even though she wasn't on the gunships that rescued the Jedi. She was skilled in tandem fighting where her movements would be in sync with her partners in battle. This could be seen clearly when fighting alongside her Master—together she and Unduli were a formidable team in combat.
After turning to the dark side, Offee's fighting style grew more ferocious and she seemed to mirror Asajj Ventress' aggressive technique as noted by Ahsoka Tano who thought she was dueling Ventress when Offee attacked her, although this was more because of the fact that Offee was using Ventress' lightsabers rather than her fighting style. However, having dueled Ventress several times, Tano would probably have noticed if Offee was using a different style, so it is heavily implied that Offee was trained in the use of Makashi as well as Soresu. Offee showed skill in Jar'Kai, being able to overwhelm Tano and even hold her own against Anakin Skywalker (though he eventually captured her by placing her in a Force grip), despite the fact that she was wielding unfamiliar lightsabers.

Nalini Krishan played Offee in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Tatyana Yassukovich provided her voice in the Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon, and Meredith Salenger voiced her in the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series. Offee's character was first introduced in the novel The Approaching Storm, penned by Alan Dean Foster, as a tie-in to Attack of the Clones, released several months later. The Ansion dispute from the novel was referenced in Attack of the Clones, where Offee also made appearances in Chancellor Palpatine's office and during the Battle of Geonosis.
Offee was initially intended to appear in the Order 66 sequence but was removed, along with the deaths of Luminara Unduli and Shaak Ti. Unused footage from Attack of the Clones was planned for this appearance.
The New Essential Guide to Characters and The Approaching Storm identify Offee as Human. However, Mirialans are Near-Human and thus not part of the Human species.
In the Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary, it is mentioned that Barriss Offee's tattoos are Chalactan in origin. However, this information was corrected in the MedStar Duology. Officially, Offee's tattoos are traditionally Mirialan.
Due to Offee's actions in the Season 5 finale "The Wrong Jedi," her subsequent fate in the Clone Wars, particularly her involvement in Order 66 and the MedStar books, remains uncertain. Leland Chee has largely refrained from commenting on resolving this issue, although he has noted that it was not explicitly stated that she was still a Padawan in the episode regarding the stance on _MedStar, _thus leaving it open to interpretation.
