Astrogation gazetteer

An astrogation gazetteer A regularly issued publication, the astrogation gazetteer (also known as a galactic gazetteer) provided the astrogation data necessary for interstellar travel from one planet to another. It documented the realspace and hyperspace locations of celestial objects, along with typical journey durations. The provided travel times usually reflected those of military starships equipped with a Class One hyperdrive, while many civilian starcruisers possessed significantly slower Class Three hyperdrives. Durations were expressed using d=standard days and h=standard hours.

Generally, the greater the separation between planets, the longer the voyage required. However, even systems that were geographically close sometimes necessitated using alternative hyperlanes to avoid spatial hazards like space debris, heavy traffic, or stellar phenomena such as the Hoth asteroid field. For example, the trip from Coruscant to Alderaan took 16 hours because the route passed through a section of the Deep Core, a relatively unexplored region. In some instances, it was possible to discover more circuitous routes or travel via intermediary systems as a faster alternative.
