Adumar, a planet with a temperate climate, was initially colonized by humans during the Ductavis Era. Situated at the edge of Wild Space, these colonists, having been banished from the Galactic Republic, remained isolated for numerous years. Over time, they evolved into various nations scattered across the globe. Their culture became deeply infatuated with the skills of blastsword combat and starfighter combat, so much so that accomplished swordsmen and pilots were held in very high esteem. Furthermore, their society heavily relied on formal duels for resolving conflicts, or simply for amusement, and they also maintained a strict social structure.
Sometime around 12 and 13 ABY, Adumari reconnaissance vessels had traveled far enough from their home planet to discover the ongoing struggle between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant. Given Adumar's significant industrial capacity dedicated to producing munitions, both factions were keen to secure an alliance with the planet. Consequently, both the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant dispatched delegations, each consisting of exceptional starfighter pilots, to Adumar. These delegations were sent to Cartann, Adumar's largest nation. During their stay, the perator, or leader, of Cartann decided to seize control of the entire planet. Although he received assistance from the Remnant, the New Republic pilots managed to escape Cartann and unite the other Adumari nations into the Adumari Union, ultimately defeating Cartann and its allies. Later, the Adumari also overwhelmed an Imperial task force sent to aid Cartann and eventually joined the New Republic. They remained members of the New Republic and its succeeding state, the Galactic Alliance, for many years, participating in both the Yuuzhan Vong War and the Second Galactic Civil War. During the latter conflict, the planet seceded from the Galactic Alliance to join the Confederation.
The Human inhabitants of Adumar developed a sophisticated social system centered on personal honor and triumph over adversaries. The Adumari aristocracy was consumed by blastsword duels and starfighter combat, paying no attention to the disadvantaged factory workers laboring underground until the planet aligned itself with the New Republic. The Adumari also possessed considerable skill in missile manufacturing, producing various types, including a specialized variant designed to penetrate solid surfaces before detonating, creating a substantial crater within the target. Their extensive missile production capabilities could be readily converted to proton torpedo production, which spurred the interest of both the Imperial and New Republic forces in courting the planet. However, Adumar lacked a unified planetary government and was instead divided into several independent nation-states, with Cartann's nation being the most dominant. Cartann also exerted control over several smaller nations through diplomatic agreements and alliances.
During the Ductavis Era, Adumar became the home of a group of humans who had been vanquished by the Galactic Republic and subsequently exiled. Throughout this prolonged period of isolation from the broader galactic civilization, Adumari civilization evolved into a collection of warring states. The Adumari elite were obsessed with blastsword duels and starfighter combat, while also demonstrating proficiency in the production of missiles that could be easily adapted to proton torpedoes.

Between the years of 12 and 13 ABY, Adumari scout vessels had ventured far enough into inhabited space to become aware of the events that had transpired in the larger galaxy during their isolation. Of particular note was the ongoing Galactic Civil War between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant. Following the Orinda campaign, both the New Republic and the Remnant discovered that Adumar was a significant industrial center for missile production, and both sides recognized the strategic importance of securing the planet's allegiance.
However, diplomatic negotiations proved impossible due to the Adumari's deep respect for military heroes. The Perator of Cartann, Pekaelic ke Teldan, offered both governments an opportunity to prove their worth, with the victor gaining the allegiance of Adumar and its valuable missile industry. The New Republic dispatched General Wedge Antilles of the renowned Rogue Squadron, while the Imperials sent Turr Phennir, who had assumed command of the legendary 181st Imperial Fighter Wing.
Shortly thereafter, the Perator of Cartann, influenced by a rogue New Republic diplomat, Tomer Darpen, announced his intention to establish a planetary government under Cartann's control. When representatives from the smaller Adumari states opposed Cartann, the Perator declared war, initiating the Adumari Civil War. When the Perator requested that the Imperial and New Republic pilots support Cartann in the conflict, Phennir agreed, while Antilles refused. In response, Darpen deceived the ruler into believing that Antilles and his pilots desired an honorable death in combat to avoid the shame of refusing. After escaping Cartann's forces, Antilles made contact with the emerging Adumari Coalition and agreed to lead their combined forces in an attack on Cartann. Following the successful assault, Darpen was apprehended, and the Perator abdicated in favor of his son, Balass ke Teldan. Balass ke Teldan reached an agreement with the other Adumari state leaders, leading to the unification of the various Adumari nations under the Adumari Union, a government that supported the New Republic.
Following the establishment of the planetary government, the Remnant launched an attack on the planet, initiating the Battle of Adumar. The combined forces of the New Republic and the Adumari Union successfully repelled the Imperial invasion. In retaliation, Imperial Admiral Pellaeon later attacked Adumar and bombarded the planet with the Super Star Destroyer Reaper.

Nom Anor, a Yuuzhan Vong agent, instigated anti-Republic riots on the planet in the months following its alliance with the New Republic.
Near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, in 17 ABY, the Imperial Remnant initiated the last major Imperial campaign against the New Republic. Admiral Pellaeon achieved a victorious battle at Adumar, but the Imperial forces were ultimately defeated, leading them to negotiate peace with the New Republic two years later.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War in 26 ABY, Adumari forces executed a flanking maneuver against the Yuuzhan Vong near the Bilbringi system, contributing to the repulsion of the Vong from the Galactic Core.
In 40 ABY, Adumar formed an alliance with Corellia at the onset of the Second Galactic Civil War. In that year, Jacen Solo, a Jedi Knight, and his apprentice Ben Skywalker were dispatched on a mission to uncover an illegal missile factory on Adumar. The mission culminated in a violent ambush, from which both Jedi narrowly escaped with their lives. This incident ignited political turmoil that threatened to escalate into full-scale rebellion and destabilize the fledgling Galactic Alliance.
The name "Adumar" originates from Alexandre Dumas, the French author of The Three Musketeers. Aaron Allston revealed this information during a panel at Jedi-Con in 2004, drawing parallels between the main characters of The Three Musketeers and the four X-wing pilots in Starfighters of Adumar.
