Prior to and during the time of the Mandalorian Wars, the feathered dog was a reptavian that had been domesticated and was kept as a pet on the planet Taris. It is probable that any of these animals still alive on the world at the time of the Jedi Civil War were killed when Darth Malak gave the order to bombard the planet from orbit.
The Varactyl, a species that originates from Utapau, bears a resemblance to this creature. A similarity can also be observed between it and a Mooka. It's possible that it's a smaller relative of the Mastiff phalone, a larger creature that is native to Maridun.
