The Er'Kit system existed within the Noonian sector of the Outer Rim Territories'. As a part of the Braxant Run hyperlane, it was home to the planet of Er'Kit, which served as the homeworld for the sentient Er'Kit species. This system was once a part of both the Galactic Republic and later the Galactic Empire. Notably, in 0 BBY, the Imperial Death Star battle station traversed through this system en route to the planet Alderaan. Following the Battle of Endor, the Er'Kit system became associated with various Imperial factions, including the Imperial Remnant. Ultimately, it faced conquest by the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong invaders.
The Noonian sector, a region within the New Territories section of the Outer Rim Territories, contained the Er'Kit system. It was located along the Braxant Run hyperlane, providing connections to the Borgo Prime and Storinal systems. Furthermore, another hyperspace route connected it to the Hewett system. The system of Er'Kit housed the terrestrial planet also named Er'Kit.
Between 3000 BBY and 1000 BBY, the space encompassing the Er'Kit system was explored. By the end of the New Sith Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Force-users, the system was situated in territories that were either unaligned or contested by both sides. During the [Clone Wars](/article/clone_wars-legends], the Er'Kit system existed within Republic-controlled territory. The Republic's Ninth Sector Army was tasked with engaging Confederacy of Independent Systems military forces in the vicinity of the system during the early stages of the war in 22 BBY. Following the Commerce Guild's acquisition of the planet Ukio, the Er'Kit system appeared on a galactic map displayed on a viewscreen at a facility operated by Passel Argente, the Magistrate of the Corporate Alliance. By 17 BBY, the Er'Kit system was incorporated into the Galactic Empire, the successor to the Republic.

In 0 BBY, two vessels involved in the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance passed through the Er'Kit system. First, the Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator, after capturing Tantive IV, the corvette of Rebel Senator Leia Organa, above Tatooine, traveled through Er'Kit with the senator aboard to rendezvous with the Imperial Death Star battle station in the Horuz system. Not long after, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, the officer commanding the Death Star, decided to demonstrate its power on Alderaan. The Imperial Navy cleared the hyperlanes for the mobile station to move unhindered to its target, passing through the Er'Kit system along the way.
Following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Er'Kit system was located within the Empire's Oversector Outer. However, the New Republic's military advances against Imperial factions caused the oversector's boundaries to shrink away from the system two years later. Despite this, Er'Kit remained within Imperial Space between 7 ABY and 8 ABY, and by 10 ABY, it was within the territory controlled by Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn during his campaign against the New Republic in the previous year.

Between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, the Er'Kit system was within the borders of the reorganized Imperial Remnant. However, another New Republic offensive, which involved both New Republic and Imperial forces passing through the system before a confrontation in the Ketaris system, resulted in the system falling outside of the Remnant's borders by 17 ABY. The extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong conquered the Er'Kit system between 25 ABY and 26 ABY as part of their invasion of the galaxy, and the system remained under their control by 27 ABY.
Er'Kit was the homeworld of the sentient Er'Kit species. By 32 BBY, at least one Er'Kit had ventured into the wider galaxy. By the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, a family including the Human brothers Treuten and Kosh Teradoc, who would become Imperial Navy officers, also resided on the planet. The planet had representation in the Republic's Galactic Senate by 22 BBY, and the Er'Kit system's population was estimated to be between one and ten million around 25 ABY.
The planet Er'Kit, and consequently its star system, was first depicted on a map within Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, a reference book published in 2000 by Kristin Lund. Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry officially named the system and placed it in grid square M-6 in their 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas. The Er'Kit system made its initial appearance in The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic written by Pablo Hidalgo and published on StarWars.com throughout the second season (2009–2010) of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.
