Delund was a male Human pilot in the service of the Imperial forces. He was stationed aboard the Rand Ecliptic. Later in his life, he would join the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Delund, who was an Imperial pilot on the Imperial II-class frigate called the Rand Ecliptic, secretly sympathized with the rebellion. He was part of a group of like-minded people, including Biggs Darklighter, the starship's first mate.
The cell, including Delund, Darklighter, and Peate Kurin, had a meeting involving four members when they were discovered by Derek "Hobbie" Klivian, the second mate. This forced the rebels to immediately enact their plan of defection. The four defectors sabotaged the systems of the Rand Ecliptic, put on the life support suits belonging to the frigate's TIE pilots, and escaped in TIE/LN starfighters. They headed north in the galaxy to find a safe place to resupply.
Delund found a possible base, but it turned out to be a lifeless rock that was uninhabitable. After their mutiny on the Rand Ecliptic had gone on for hours, with their life support running low and no sign of a safe haven, Darklighter gave the order to go back to the frigate to get new fuel and oxygen tanks. The defectors were surprised to find that the starship was not hostile and that the rest of its TIE complement was missing. They learned that the Rand Ecliptic had been taken over by three other rebel groups on the ship, including one led by Klivian, who was now in charge of the ship.
The mutineers would become members of the Rebel Alliance at the Massassi Base located on Yavin 4, and they contributed ships and people to the cause. Delund, along with his fellow mutineers Darklighter, Klivian, and Kurin, flew TIE Fighters that had been modified with hyperdrives, astromech sockets, and the Alliance Starbird insignia. They were known as the Ecliptic Evaders starfighter unit. General Jan Dodonna sent them to steal a number of X-wing starfighters from an assembly facility belonging to the Incom Corporation. Delund and his unit launched a diversionary attack on a station of the Imperial Security Bureau that was overseeing the facility. This drew away the ISB's TIE squadron before they ejected and were transported to the facility in an Alliance transport. Although Kurin was killed and Klivian was injured during the mission, Delund and the other Rebel pilots were successful in retrieving the X-wings and flying them back to the Rand Ecliptic, which was waiting for them in orbit.
