The responsibility of defending the southern polar territories fell to Admiral Raddus, assigned by King Lee-Char amidst the Galactic Empire's invasion of the planet Mon Cala. This defense concluded when the Empire initiated an orbital bombardment of the area, prompting Raddus to instruct a commander to deploy all cruisers in an attempt to break through the planetary blockade and flee.
