7-A39, also referred to as SevenAy, functioned as a protocol droid for the Jedi Order at the Almas Academy. This Jedi academy was established on the planet of Almas. After the destruction of the academy in 19 BBY, 7-A39 sustained damage, resulting in the loss of his legs. Around 17 BBY, a group of Ugor scavengers found him. This discovery led to a conflict between the Ugors and a rival group of Squib salvagers over who owned the droid. The issue was settled when agents from the Alderaanian Resistance purchased 7-A39 from both factions, subsequently utilizing the protocol droid as a guide to explore the academy's ruins.
Frequently called "SevenAy," 7-A39 was a protocol droid exhibiting a masculine personality, serving the Jedi Order towards the end of the Galactic Republic's years. Stationed at the Almas Academy, a Jedi academy located in Forard, a city on the planet of Almas, he once received instructions from Jedi Master Seenlu Kir around 31 BBY. Kir tasked him with finding some freelance agents that the Jedi wanted to speak with. 7-A39 successfully located the agents, brought them back to the academy, and Kir then hired these agents to assist in the search for missing Jedi.

Around 19 BBY, the Almas Academy met its destruction during an attack led by the Dark Jedi Garth Ezzar. This assault caused damage to 7-A39, and he lost his legs, leaving him abandoned within the ruined academy. In approximately 17 BBY, a band of Ugor scavengers stumbled upon the remains of the droid inside the academy and moved him to the building's entrance. However, when the Ugors left the droid unattended for a short time, a rival group of Squib salvagers laid claim to him. This led to a dispute between the Ugors and Squibs about who rightfully owned the droid. The Ugors considered the protocol droid a sacred artifact and argued their entitlement under Ugorian Divine Law. Conversely, the Squibs asserted their right to 7-A39 under High Squibbian Law, citing the Ugors' abandonment of the droid. The Ugor SplrMuck and the Squib Jiminaldo-mabbramsti even engaged in a tug-of-war, each pulling on the droid in an attempt to claim him, much to 7-A39's distress. A group of Alderaanian Resistance agents, who were on Almas search for a Jedi holocron, happened upon the scene of the argument, and the Ugors appealed to them to resolve the conflict.
The resistance agents negotiated with SplrMuck and the Squibs to purchase the droid. The Ugors agreed to relinquish their claim for 2,000 credits, while the Squibs were satisfied to exchange the droid for the agents' breath masks. Transported by the agents in a net, 7-A39 served as a guide for the Alderaanian Resistance team as they explored the academy ruins. Soon after, the agents discovered a fragment of a Sith tome in the facility's archive, and 7-A39 translated the text for them. However, the droid's recitation of the document triggered a groundquake that caused the room to shake. The agents also visited the academy's control room, where 7-A39 accessed a computer and obtained a map of the academy's sub-levels for his new owners.
7-A39, a bipedal protocol droid prone to misfortune, was covered in silver-colored copper plating. This plating became tarnished after he sustained damage during the attack on the Almas Academy. He possessed extensive knowledge of the academy's inner workings and was programmed with a holomap showing the institution's layout. He also had a heuristic processor, a translator unit, and a vocabulator.
Adam Burns created 7-A39, who made his debut in Desert Cries, a 2002 role-playing adventure within the Almas, Sweet Almas trilogy of the Living Force campaign. He later reappeared in Echoes of the Jedi, a role-playing adventure authored by Abel G. Peña and Jean-François Boivin and published in 2008. In Echoes of the Jedi, players assume the roles of the Alderaanian Resistance agents, and they have the option to negotiate with the Squibs and Ugors to acquire 7-A39.
